LEERINK SWANN ADVANCES INVESTMENT BANKING FRANCHISE WITH KEY NEW HIRES

Healthcare Focused Investment Bank Adds Experienced Team of Investment Bankers from Bank of America Merrill Lynch

Boston, MA – July 23, 2009 – Leerink Swann, the leading healthcare investment bank, has recently recruited a team of investment bankers, including James Boylan, Bryan Giraudo, Tony Gibney and Mark Page. They will join the Firm upon completion of notice obligations to Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Jim Boylan will provide leadership as the new Head of Investment Banking and will continue to serve his clients across the pharma/biotech, medical device and healthcare services sectors. Messrs. Gibney, Giraudo and Page are joining the Firm as Managing Directors and together bring extensive relationships and transaction experience with life sciences and medical device companies.

In addition to these senior bankers, Eric Tansky, Brad Wolff and a team of highly talented mid and junior level bankers from Bank of America Merrill Lynch will be joining the Firm in August. With these additions, Leerink Swann has assembled an experienced senior origination contingent and a complete healthcare investment banking team of approximately 35 professionals.

“With the addition of this group and other recent hires including Jed Cohen and Adam Berger from Citigroup, Marc Grasso and Bill Reiland from Morgan Stanley, and Dan Lepanto from Cowen and Company, our senior investment banking team is well positioned to meet the needs of our clients across the entire strategic and product continuums,” said Jeffrey A. Leerink, Chairman and CEO of Leerink Swann. “This is consistent with our commitment to being the most knowledgeable healthcare investment bank. We will continue to differentiate based on healthcare knowledge and unbiased advice, and now boast unmatched transaction experience with this very formidable group of healthcare dedicated investment bankers.”

“The dislocation in the financial markets and the continued focus on proprietary capital transactions of the large universal banks have facilitated the resurgence of independent investment banking firms,” said James P. Boylan. “Our clients are increasingly focused on comprehensive solutions and are seeking knowledge-based and unbiased strategic advice.  Leerink Swann has built an outstanding platform that is well positioned to partner with our clients to help them achieve strategic and financing objectives. The combination of a leading healthcare equity business, the unique insights of MEDACorp and Leerink Swann Strategic Advisors, creates a comprehensive strategic partnership for our clients that is unmatched in the business. We look forward to leveraging the power of this platform with our new colleagues to serve our clients.”
